European 200-HP Kia Soul Rumored for US Release
200-HP Kia Soul
The Kia Soul is known for being a small, peppy, and youthful car. A car available in bright colors and a recognizable, modern design. In Europe, the Soul recently got an upgrade in the form of a 1.6-liter turbocharged I4 engine. This cranks out 204 horsepower—a big number for a vehicle so lightweight. The launch of the 200 hp Kia Soul in Europe has caused the rumor mill to start turning. People are beginning to ask, “Is this new, more powerful Kia Soul aiming to eventually cross over to the United States?”
A Soul outfitted with the new engine isn’t available on European streets just yet. But its launch was announced just ahead of its debut at the Paris Motor Show. Aside from a brand-new engine for a more energetic performance, the new Kia Soul will also offer changes like sporty tweaks to the design and technological upgrades in the interior. The updates include the latest version of Kia’s infotainment system and compatibility with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The new 200-hp Kia Soul will be referred to in the nameplate’s lineup as the Soul 1.6 T-GDI. However, this isn’t the first time we’ve heard of the Soul getting an engine with over 200 horsepower. There have been whispers of a Kia Soul with a more powerful engine showing up in US dealers for some time now. So industry insiders expect the currently European-exclusive variant to make its stateside debut sometime in the near future.
