Kia’s Virtual Assistant

Kia is out to make shopping for a new vehicle easier than ever with the unveiling of its new assistant. Kia’s virtual assistant, known as Kian, is an artificial intelligence-powered virtual assistant that can guide consumers through Kia’s website. Shoppers can learn more about each Kia vehicle and find the right model for them by texting Kian, their very own digital assistant.

Kian was developed jointly by Kia and CarLabs, a marketing-tech provider. Ansible, a digital agency, also played a role in the development of the chatbot. The virtual assistant features natural language processing that allows customers to ask specific questions about each Kia vehicle.

Kia tested a virtual bot called NiroBot to market and sell the Kia Niro. The chatbot saw more than 875,000 engagements from 33,000 consumers. In all, more than 22,000 Kia Niro models have been sold.

“In our ever-changing digital world, Kian is programmed to understand individual customer needs and then provide shopping decision support instantly and intuitively,” said Saad Chehab, vice president, marketing communications, Kia Motors America.

Kian essentially allows potential customers to remove the time-sensitive pressure of chatting with a live assistant. As more shoppers converse with Kian, the system will learn to anticipate questions and provide more exact answers. Basically, it gets smarter over time and can serve customers better every day.
